Ok, so this is for all of you with swanky new Nokia E71 and E75 phones. Nokia has its own email application and service. I am currently using it with 3 email accounts setup.
Quick Review of “Nokia Messaging”
In short, its the absolute best direct-push email messaging application available for your Nokia. Direct-push means that the phone receives an email the instant that your email account receives it. Nokia has done a great job with this application and while power users (those who extensively use Gmail labels etc) will feel a little discomfort, the app works just fine.
IMPORTANT: You will need EDGE data access service enabled on your phone by the Carrier. Plain GPRS service will NOT WORK with this appplication. I’ve listed the required service and links below for some carriers:
Vodafone: Vodafone Live! is NOT what you need. You need Vodafone Mobile Connect. Click here
Airtel: You need to subscribe to Airtel Mobile Office. Click here
BPLMobile: Here its confusing, as they call it GPRS service. But if they’re charging Rs. 499/month its probably the EDGE data service. See here
How to set it up:
- Go to http://email.nokia.com
- Click the link on the bottom right to check if your phone is supported, or click here
- Select your phone if you can see it on the page. If you cant, tough luck this application does not support your phone!
- In the next screen, enter the email address and password of the email account you wish to use with your Nokia phone. Note: this must be an existing email account. Fill out the security text box as instructed and click NEXT.
- On to the final step, where you enter your Full Name, phone number (in international format eg: +91 9820098200) and security question/answer. Click CREATE ACCOUNT
- Follow the rest of the instructions
- You should receive an SMS with a link to the sftware application. On your phone, select and open the link, your web browser will pop up and ask if you wish to download the application. Select YES and wait patiently till the download is complete.
- Follow onscreen instructions on your phone to install the application
- Once installed, the application will ask you for an Access Point, which is the EDGE data access point.
- Once the Nokia EMail application is running on the phone, choose the settings icon to configure how much email you want downloaded, how often and other stuff.
Thats it! If you’re having problems, you know how to reach me.
